D-01
The Neumann D-01 is a large-diaphragm digital studio condenser microphone with an AES 42 output and A/D conversion at the capsule. It offers 15 directional patterns and onboard DSP, and suits studio vocal and instrument recording. It is part of the discontinued Solution-D line.
- Large-diaphragm digital condenser, AES 42 output
- A/D conversion at the capsule, 130 dB dynamic range
- 15 directional patterns, omni to figure-8
- Onboard DSP: compressor/limiter, de-esser, low cut
- Sample rates 44.1 to 192 kHz, 24-bit output
- Self-noise 8 dB-A; max SPL 138 dB (156 dB with pad)

The D-01 is the flagship of Neumann's Solution-D digital microphone range. It uses a newly developed large-diaphragm capsule designed for an even response in every directional pattern: omni, cardioid, figure-8 and twelve intermediate settings. The signal is digitised directly at the capsule by a custom A/D converter that covers the capsule's full 130 dB dynamic range, with sample rates up to 192 kHz at 24 bit.
Internal DSP provides digital gain, a variable low cut, a peak limiter and a compressor/limiter/de-esser. All parameters, including pattern, can be stored in the microphone and are controlled remotely through Neumann's RCS software, which can run on the DAW computer or as a VST plug-in. Remote-controllable signal LEDs allow communication with the performer.
The microphone handles up to 138 dB SPL without pre-attenuation (156 dB SPL with the 18 dB pre-attenuation set via RCS) and has 8 dB-A self-noise. It connects through an XLR output carrying the AES 42 digital signal. Suggested uses include vocals, piano, acoustic guitar, upright bass, wind instruments, drums, percussion and sampling. Neumann has withdrawn the Solution-D line, with hardware service guaranteed until 31 December 2030.
