The MS-5 is a monophonic-style analog synthesizer that reproduces the circuit of the original SH-5. It has 37 semi-weighted keys with velocity sensitivity, so note intensity follows how hard a key is pressed, and the whole signal path is analog.
Sound generation comes from two VCOs and two LFOs, each offering four switchable waveforms. Modulation options include pulse width, pitch, rate and delay time. A ring modulator, controlled by an LFO, can be applied to VCO 1, VCO 2 or an external source, which gives metallic and bell-like timbres.
A mixer with five sliders balances noise, VCO 1, VCO 2, ring modulation and an external signal. An additional band pass filter has controls for frequency, resonance and level, and these can be adjusted during a sequence. The synth also includes a multi-mode VCF, a VCA and two envelopes.
