Silver 17

The Silver 17 is a cardioid large-diaphragm tube condenser from the 017 Series. It keeps the dense lows and rich midrange of the 017 TUBE but is voiced with more presence and a smoother, extended top end, so sources such as vocals, guitars and keys need less equalisation after recording.

Its capsule is a new edge-terminated variant of the in-house S17E: a hand-machined, gold-sputtered 34 mm design. The charge is applied directly to the diaphragm and routed through the mounting ring, so there is no centre screw in the diaphragm's most sensitive area. The design draws on K67 geometry and on the LOMO 19A18. The body is hand-turned, the capsule hand-tensioned, the transformer wound in-house and the wiring point-to-point, around a military-grade 6ZH1P tube.

The microphone connects to a dedicated power supply that is included and covers 220–240 V AC or 110–115 V AC (US). A custom shockmount and a handcrafted oak suitcase come with it. Suggested uses include vocals, acoustic guitar, keys, strings, drum overheads, percussion, voice-over and broadcast.
