This set pairs the EW-DP EK portable receiver with an EW-D SKM-S handheld transmitter fitted with the MMD 835 dynamic cardioid capsule. It works on UHF rather than the crowded 2.4 GHz band, with up to 56 MHz of tuning bandwidth for finding a clear channel. Latency is 1.9 ms and the dynamic range is 134 dB.
The receiver attaches to a supplied cheese plate, which mounts on a camera through a cold shoe or mounting bolts. Magnets hold the receiver on the plate. A display on the receiver shows remaining operating time, and the BA 70 li-ion battery is exchangeable, with AA cells also included for the transmitter.
The set is part of the Evolution Wireless Digital family, the successor to the analogue Evolution Wireless G4 line, and is not compatible with G3 or G4 systems. Control and sync use Bluetooth with the Sennheiser Smart Assist app. Audio leaves the receiver through locking 3.5 mm TRS or XLR cables, and charging is over USB-C.
