The ATH-IEX1 combines a dual-phase push-pull dynamic driver with two balanced armature drivers acting as super-tweeters. The dynamic section uses a 9.8 mm full-range driver facing an 8.8 mm passive radiator, held in place by a brass stabilizer. The drivers are aligned on a single axis so that the sound reads as coming from one source across the whole range.
The housing is forged and machined titanium, finished by hand polishing and a vapor-deposition coating. It is worn with the cable over the ear, and each unit carries a laser-engraved serial number. The eartip nozzle has two positions, so the insertion depth can be changed to suit fit and sound preference.
The cable connects through detachable A2DC coaxial connectors. Two 1.2 m cables are supplied: a standard cable with a 3.5 mm stereo mini plug and a balanced cable with a 4.4 mm 5-pole plug. Silicone and foam eartips in several sizes, a carrying case and a cleaning cloth are included. The model has been marked as out of production by the maker.
